- INGREDIENTS FOR TONKATSU SAUSE :
- ¼ cup tomato ketchup
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp oregano
- 3 tbsp CRISTA Tangy Peri-Peri Spice Mix
- ½ tsp salt
- 4 large crushed garlic cloves
- 1 ½ tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 ½ tbsp white vinegar
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup or 240ml thick coconut milk
- 2 tsp corn flour powder
- ½ tsp black pepper powder
- 1 large red bell pepper
Preparation
Put all the ingredients into a blender, except the coconut milk, corn flour and olive oil. Process until smooth. Now put the blender on slow running and add 1 tbsp of olive oil at a time until the sauce is thick and changes colour to orange. Next pour this mixture into a non-stick pan and add the coconut milk mixed with corn flour and let it cook for 10-15 mins on a slow flame until the sauce is thick, stirring occasionally. This can be used with rice, barbequed dishes and roasted/steamed vegetables or can be poured over a hummus or Buddha bowl. It can be served warm as well as room temperature according to your taste. The sauce can also be used on sandwiches as a spread instead of mayonnaise.
